In 2016, Lutheran Archives sponsored a competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Lutheran Church of Australia as part of the 50-500 Faith Freedom Future program.
Students were invited to research the story of their church family and then present it in written or multimedia form. Some high quality presentations were entered and the winners have been announced following judging by Janette Lange and Ev Leske on behalf of Lutheran Archives.
The winning entries were:
Senior section – 13 to 16 years:
Alex Osborne and Eden Bishop from Morley WA
A history of Bethlehem Morley: 1969-2016 (589.15 MB MPG video file)
Junior section – 12 years and under:
Levi Podlich from Bethany Lutheran Church and School, Raceview, Queensland
Bethany history (15.1 MB PowerPoint presentation)
We thank all students who participated in the competition. Each prize winner has received a cheque for $100 courtesy of Daryl Wohlers of Wohlers Furniture and Homewares. The winning entries were excellent multimedia presentations, and are available via the links above or on the Archives competition page here. It was heart-warming to see the enthusiasm of entrants, typified by the response of nine year old Levi Podlich to the news of his win:
“Thank you so much for selecting me. I am so excited. Mrs Crump came especially to my class room to tell me and I was very surprised. I would love if my power point presentation was on the Lutheran church’s website. It would make me feel very proud. Also use it for Synod if you want, I don’t mind. I love my school and church, Bethany in Ipswich.”
